Recent History - Post 2004
2004. 10 years had now passed since Mr Scott had passed away and the Trustees decided to close the Care Home. A suitable purchaser had been found and it seemed Machermore was to close in its 50th year. The Lord, however, apparently had other plans. It was at the 12th-hour when the sale was put on hold due to a technicality that Malcolm and Esther Herbert were informed of the sale.
They had come to know about Machermore for the first time in 1989 and incredibly, the sale of Machermore coincided with an exercise Malcolm & Esther had about its continuance. They had no idea that an off-the-cuff conversation about Machermore exactly a year previous was to prepare them for the following year. When informed of the demise of Machermore they knew they would save it from closure and on the 4th June 2004 they purchased it.
Machermore no longer has a Trust or any connection to a Trust. Malcolm & Esther believe that this ownership is right and crucial for the future of the Care Home.
Malcolm Herbert now looks after day-to-day management of the care home.
2004 was an exciting year for the staff and management introducing and consolidating changes following the new ownership.
A new full colour brochure has been produced which advertises Machermore's facilities and complies with the Care Commission's requirements.
At the beginning, it was said that Mr Scott started Machermore because he had faith in his God to run it.
50 years on, nothing has changed Machermore continues to trust in the same God.
